The third annual Ronin Sharma Memorial Tournament will play at a new location this year.

The tournament will be held at Planet Ice Coquitlam, 2300 Rocket Way, Coquitlam, from Friday to Sunday (July 19- 21).

The seven-division tournament aims to honour the Surrey teen's love for hockey by “hosting a fun, fair and safe tournament for the hockey community,” reads the website.

Sharma was killed Aug. 21, 2021 in an early-morning car crash that also claimed the lives of his friends and Delta Hockey Academy teammates Parker Magnuson and Caleb Reimer, on 104 Avenue in the Fraser Heights area.

The Ronin Sharma Foundation and hockey tournament were both created to honour Ronin’s legacy.

"The Ronin Sharma Foundation has been established to honour his legacy by helping others achieve their dreams. Through fundraising, bursaries, scholarships, and additional aid we will help those in the community that need it most," reads a post on the website.

The foundation has distributed over $26,000 through scholarships, financial aid and supplying equipment.

Several people will be awarded a Ronin Sharma Memorial scholarship at the tournament, stated Jessica Sharma in an email to the Now-Leader.
