Seven people were taken to hospital after crashes in Hatzic during the Canada Day long weekend.

According to Mission Fire Rescue Service,  a pickup truck rear-ended a motorcycle shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 29).  The motorcycle driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

MFRS says it appeared the motorcycle driver was dragged approximately 100 feet after being hit.

The crash occurred on Lougheed Highway and Manson Street and the highway was shut down for several hours.

First responders attended another serious crash on Monday night (July 1) at the intersection of Dewdney Trunk Road and Cemetery Avenue.

The collision involved two cars, with one rolling over in the incident. One person was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries while five others were taken by ambulance. The helicopter landed at Hatzic Middle School.

The long weekend was "extra-busy" for first responders, according to MFRS.

Firefighters also assisted ambulance crews at the Stave Lake Boat Launch on Monday after a water skier hit a log at high speed. The person was helped to shore and transported to hospital with injuries.
