Mission Record reporter Dillon White was named New Journalist of the Year during the B.C. Yukon Community Newsmedia Association’s (BCYCNA) annual Ma Murray Awards held on April 20 at the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver.

White joined the team at the Record in November of 2022 and quickly became a vital part of the newspaper.

“Dillon has shown an amazing capacity for growth and learning,” said Karen Murtagh, publisher of the Record. “His skills have continued to grow and he now covers council, police and other issues impacting the city.”

The Record was nominated for three other awards during the event, picking up one second place and two third place awards.

Editor Kevin Mills took home a third place award in the Best Columnist category while Murtagh earned a third place nod in the Ad Design category for her What’s Happening Downtown advertisement.

The entire Mission Record team placed second in the Special Publications Award, for the 2023 Mission Community Guide. The award lists Mills, Murtagh, White and former advertising consultant Jamie Hayes as the recipients.
