The Wanderers obviously wandered into the wrong pitch in Langley last night.
Turns out Vancouver Football Club (VFC), nicknamed the Eagles, soared to victory over the visiting Halifax pro soccer team, becoming the first Canadian Premier League team to bank two wins in the 2024 season.
Already down one game heading into Thursday’s match, the Halifax football club was hoping to turn things around in the game against VFC. But it was not to be.
Instead, they left Willoughby Stadium scoreless. VFC emerged triumphant, 2-0.
Rocco Romeo and Alejandro Diaz were credited with the goals, one secured 15 minutes into the first half, and the second about six minutes into the final half.
That also makes VFC the first CPL team to hit six points this year, enjoy the two back-to-back victories at home.

Halifax was actually the team that Vancouver had the most success against in 2023, winning two and drawing one of their four meetings for seven points. In fact, the Wanderers lost 2-1 both times they visited Langley last year.
And Patrice Gheisar’s Halifax side didn’t have the start they wanted to 2024, as they first lost 1-0 to Pacific FC last Saturday, and now to Vancouver.
Thursday’s victory on home pitch for Vancouver followed a successful home opener last Sunday, April 14, where they downed Winnipeg’s Valour FC.
According to a Canadian Premier League report, Vancouver was “perhaps the most impressive team of the CPL’s opening weekend, as they came from a goal down to rout Valour FC 4-1. It was a celebratory evening at Willoughby Park, where they scored a club record four times, with three goals coming from newcomers to the squad for 2024 — Moses Dyer, Paris Gee and David Norman.”

Next up, VFC heads out on a three-game road trip, starting in Calgary on Tuesday, where they take on the Cavalry, followed by a game in Toronto – against York FC – next Friday.
